Jenica Goertz, an Ontario-based surface designer and illustrator, created this colourway of her Bohemian Oasis wildflower pattern. She has drawn since childhood and now designs from her farm, where rural life shapes much of her work. The design is part of our Canadian Artists collection, printed to order in Vancouver, with a royalty to Jenica on each order.
Despite the name, the ground reads as a soft periwinkle – a blue with a slight violet cast. Over it are cream and ivory flowers, ochre and warm yellow accents, and small terracotta blooms. In daylight it looks more blue; in warm lamplight the violet cast becomes more noticeable.
The flowers and grasses are small to medium and closely spaced, creating an even texture rather than a strong repeat. The mid-tone ground and the contrast with cream florals make it livelier than the rose colourway, but it still reads gentle from across a room.
A living room or sitting room is a good fit, where the cool periwinkle balances warm wood and brass. It also suits a bedroom. The relaxed, hand-drawn florals belong in boho and eclectic interiors with rattan, woven textiles and vintage pieces.
Choose peel and stick for a simple, removable install, or canvas-textured peel and stick for a subtle woven surface that suits the hand-drawn look. Traditional paste-the-wall is the most permanent option for larger rooms. Colour and print quality are the same across all three.
