Vintage Hydrangeas is by Yvonne Hart, a watercolour artist based in Southern Ontario. Her designs are inspired by her garden and by treasured memories, and the faded, heirloom quality of these hydrangeas reflects both. The ground is a warm peach-cream with a fine speckled paper texture. The hydrangea heads are pale cream with small flecks of pink and blue, and the leaves move through olive green, rust, ochre and slate. Lamplight brings out the warm, autumnal tones; cool winter daylight makes the cream look softer and paler.
The flower heads are medium-sized, spaced along trailing stems with leaves in between. The cream flowers blend softly into the cream ground, so the darker leaves give the pattern its definition. Overall it reads as a gentle, moderately detailed floral on a light background.
It makes a warm, restful bedroom wall, and it also works well behind a sofa in a living room or in a dining room with wooden furniture. The faded palette suits vintage, farmhouse and modern rustic styles, and pairs well with linen, oatmeal upholstery and light oak.
Yes. Winter heating dries indoor air considerably, and summer brings more humidity, so the paper benefits from time to adjust. Unroll or leave the panels in the room for about a day before hanging, at the temperature and humidity the room normally runs at, so seams stay neat once the paper is on the wall.
