Scattered Leaves Wallpaper was designed by Canadian artist Nora House, who trained at NSCAD University and the Toronto School of Art and has kept a dedicated practice since 2008. The beauty of nature is one of the main influences she names in her work. It belongs to our Canadian Artists collection and is printed to order in Vancouver.
The ground is a dusty mauve-pink that covers most of the surface. The leaves come in two families: greens from olive to fresh grass green, and reds from crimson to coral. Daylight brings out the coral and pink; lamplight warms the mauve toward rose, and the cooler light of a Canadian winter makes the ground look slightly greyer and more muted.
The sprigs are medium scale and scattered in different directions with even spacing, leaving plenty of mauve showing between them. The background is light-to-mid tone. From across a room it reads as an airy, moving pattern rather than a dense one, so it can cover a whole room without feeling crowded.
Its soft ground and loose layout make it an easy choice for a living room, either on all walls or behind a sofa. It also suits a bedroom or a home office. It sits well with modern Scandinavian and soft contemporary interiors – pale wood, grey or oatmeal upholstery and round mirrors – and adds warmth to a neutral scheme.
Yes, give it a day. Indoor humidity in Canada varies a lot between a dry, heated winter and a humid summer, and paper expands or contracts slightly with it. Unroll the panels in the room you are papering for around 24 hours, with the heating or air conditioning running normally, so they are stable before the first one goes on the wall.
