This is one of several colourways of Sage & Saddle by Amy Emma Design. Amy Emma is a surface designer and equestrian based in the Canadian Rockies, and the ranch life around her shows in these working cowboy scenes. It is part of our Canadian Artists collection, printed to order in Vancouver, with a royalty paid to the artist on each sale.
The ground is a dark warm grey with a brown undertone, close to charcoal-taupe. The cowboys and horses are in chestnut, tan and cream, with small touches of pine green in the trees and a faint lighter-grey sketch layer behind. Under daylight the ground reads greyer; under lamps it warms toward brown.
The vignettes are roughly hand-sized and repeat closely, giving a small-to-medium scale. The full-colour figures stand out clearly against the dark ground, while the faint background sketches add depth. It is a dark-ground pattern with moderate contrast, busier than the Sepia version but still grounded.
It suits a bedroom with crisp white bedding and black accents, a den or a home office with leather and dark wood. The dark ground hides scuffs well, so it also works in a mudroom or entry. Style-wise it leans Western, ranch and vintage, but the grey base keeps it from feeling overly rustic.
Yes. A 24-inch sample is available. With a dark ground like this one, a sample is worth it: hang it on the intended wall and check it in daylight and at night, since the shift between grey and brown is more noticeable in person than on screen.
