This colourway of Sage & Saddle is by Amy Emma Design. Amy Emma is a surface designer and equestrian living in the Canadian Rockies, and the riders and working horses reflect the ranch landscape around her. It is part of our Canadian Artists collection and printed to order in Vancouver. The artist receives a royalty on each order.
The ground is a jade turquoise that sits between green and blue-green. The figures are chestnut, tan and dark brown, with cream highlights and darker green trees, and a lighter green sketch layer adds depth. Daylight brings out the blue in the turquoise; lamplight pushes it greener. Winter light can make it look slightly cooler and flatter.
Each scene is roughly hand-sized and closely repeated, for a small-to-medium scale. The ground is mid-tone, neither pale nor dark, and the brown figures stand out with moderate contrast. From across the room it reads as a textured turquoise wall; up close it becomes a detailed Western toile.
It works well in a living room with grey or cream upholstery and pale wood, where the turquoise adds colour without being loud. It is also a good choice for a bedroom or den. The palette suits vintage, Western and eclectic interiors, and pairs nicely with tan leather and natural fibres.
Yes, briefly. Canadian winters bring very dry indoor air from heating, while summers can be humid, and the material adjusts to both. Keep the panels in the room where they will be hung for about 24 hours first, with the room at its usual temperature, so they settle before going on the wall.
