The zebras are illustrated at a scale that reads as a true statement motif: a few full figures fill a wall rather than repeating in a tight pattern. Up close the hand-drawn stripe work and texture show, while from across a room the animals read clearly as a confident, large-scale design.
The background is a warm mustard, with the zebras rendered in black and white. Mustard is a saturated, energising tone that works well concentrated on one wall, paired with black furniture or white trim to keep the rest of the room calm and let the pattern carry the colour.
Its bold scale and warm mustard ground make it suited to rooms where people gather and linger, such as a living room, dining room or hallway. The pattern holds its own as a single feature wall, so it works well against plain walls and simple furniture rather than a room full of competing pattern.
Pattern scale is best judged against the actual wall rather than the room as a whole. A bold motif like this one needs a reasonably sized wall to show its repeat properly; on a narrow or broken-up wall, much of each zebra may be cut off and the pattern will read more as texture than as a motif.
Because the zebra motif is already busy, simple furniture lets it stand out rather than compete. Plain upholstery, solid wood pieces and a quiet rug keep the room balanced, while a heavily patterned sofa or layered textiles in front of this wall can make both the furniture and the wallpaper harder to read.
